Group Mat Classes

Intro

This class is a must for anyone who has never taken Pilates - No matter what your fitness level. The focus is on correct body alignment, flexibility, and proper use of the abdominals. The class is gentle, and we progress slowly to ensure that a proper foundation is in place (via pilates fundamentals) before progressing to the next level.

Level One

In this class you will continue to practice your pre-pilates exercises, while slowly introducing more of the traditional Mat exercises. One step up from Intro, the emphasis is still on taking it at your own pace so that the body gets a chance to develop its strength slowly and safely.

Level Two

In this class the pace begins to pick up. By this time the fundamentals are clear, and the focus is on movement. There are less rest periods and you learn many more Mat exercises.

Level Three

The goal of this class is to perfect the Mat exercise you have learned in the earlier levels, as well as introducing some new ones. You will go straight into the traditional Mat exercises with no pre-pilates warm up. This is an excellent level for the average person who is looking to be healthy for every day type activities. It is fast paced and there is lots of movement. You may even break a sweat!

Level Four

In this class you will begin to learn the more advanced exercises that will increase coordination, strength, and balance. Your posture will be of the utmost importance. The goal is to practice, practice, practice! However the emphasis is on perfect practice - as that is the way to build the body safely and to develop true strength. The pace is fast and you will definitely receive a tough workout!

Level Five

This class is dedicated to doing all 34 of Joseph Pilates Mat exercises in one hour with no breaks. Not an easy class, nor a class for everyone. The class is only for those who are healthy with no chronic or acute injuries. It will be one of the best workouts you have ever experienced!

Ron Fletcher Work

These classes are based on Pam’s studies with Ron Fletcher, an elder in the Pilates community. They include Ron’s floor work, towel work, and combine different aspects of his expertise to understand how to move the body through space. More attention is given to standing work and learning how to shift one’s body weight safely. The work with the towel focuses on proper shoulder blade mechanics, strengthening and stretching the muscles of the shoulder joint and shoulder girdle, while maintaining core strength and stability.

Spine Corrector

Your Pilates work is done on the Spine Corrector also, known as the small barrel. This novel piece of equipment allows the spine to learn how to articulate in all planes of movement while being firmly supported. Thus, it is a safe way to teach the spine to become more flexible and strong. These classes are a favorite for clients at the Studio who have mastered their Level One mat class.

Back Wellness

Special emphasis is given to decreasing back tension and pain caused by poor posture or lack of strength and flexibility. We will guide clients through a series of, safe movements that repattern old habits into new and improved ones. The aim is to sustain a healthy and pain free back.

Variety

This is a fun class that is aimed at clients who are at Level 1 or above in their study of the Mat work. Participants will be given the opportunity to try different pieces of equipment such as the Chair, Ball and Spine Corrector while continuing to study the Classical Mat work.
